Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, has reiterated warnings against any form of cooperation with militant groups, emphasizing the government’s commitment to eliminating extremist elements from the country.
The minister highlighted that despite repeated government warnings, some individuals in certain areas continue to engage with militants. “In Ceel Bacad, Middle Shabelle, we have observed that some people have yet to sever ties with extremists. I want to issue a stern warning to those still involved in such activities,” he stated.
Minister Nur confirmed that a recent airstrike targeted key militant leaders in Ceel Bacad while ensuring minimal risk to civilians. “We are taking every precaution to avoid harming civilians, but we have conducted airstrikes against militant commanders in Ceel Bacad. Once again, we urge the public not to cooperate with them and to stay away from their locations,” he warned.
Ongoing military operations across Somalia have resulted in the elimination of several militant leaders and fighters. The most recent strike killed senior extremist figure Yusuf Dhegnaas and over 20 militants.
