Mogadishu, Somalia – The Federal Government of Somalia’s drive to bolster its communication channels with the public culminated in a comprehensive three-day workshop focused on Media Relations and Government Conference Management. Held under the auspices of the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, the workshop brought together more than 40 media relations officers from various government agencies.
The training aimed at enhancing the skills of media personnel to ensure more effective communication between the government and the public. Ambassador Yusuuf Garaad, one of the distinguished experts leading the sessions, emphasized the necessity of continuous professional development for media officers. “Improving the skills of our media relations officers is essential for fostering a transparent and informed society,” he stated.
Mr. Abdullahi Hayir Duale, the Director General of the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, emphasized the workshop’s significance in developing a robust government media information system. He extended gratitude to the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) for their unwavering support in facilitating the event.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Abdirahman Yusuf, Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation and collaboration in tackling the challenges of government broadcasting and media activities. He stressed the need for media officers to engage the public effectively and counteract propaganda.
“Our media relations personnel have a crucial responsibility in conveying the government’s message accurately and effectively. This workshop is a clear indication to our commitment to enhancing their skills and capabilities,” said Mr. Yusuf.
The event marks a significant step in the Federal Government of Somalia’s efforts to foster better communication with its citizens and ensure a more informed and engaged public.
