Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a meeting with the British Prime Minister, Mr. Rishi Sunak, presented Somalia’s strategic focus on transitioning emergency aid initiatives into long term development projects for enduring benefits to the somali people, and the UK PM said that they will commit $100 million investment in Somalia.
The president spoke about the challenges surrounding the lives of Somali people and the efforts made by the government to deal with the famine that started in 2022 and the current crisis in the country caused by the rain floods that displaced thousands of families.
In response to this challenges, British Prime Minister Mr. Rishi Sunak announced that the Kingdom will begin funding development projects, economic infrastructure and agricultural development in Somalia. He emphasized that they have planned one hundred million dollars towards this endeavors.
On the other hand, President Hassan Sheikh, who gave a speech at the International Conference on preventing food shortages and disasters, said that Somalia can be at the center of international efforts to eradicate hunger, and ensure sustainable energy and agriculture.
The president noted that the Somali army has liberated more than 70 districts and areas that are rich in agricultural crops, which Al-Shabaab terrorists have crippled their production, after denying freedom to the lives of the farmers.
