A year after a deadly terrorist attack at the Soobe junction in Mogadishu, Somalia, a commemorative and memorial event was held at the same site to honor the lives lost and show resilience against the Khawarij.

The event, jointly organized by the National Disaster Management Agency and the Ministry of Education of the Federal Republic of Somalia, also showcased how the education sector did not lose hope in the face of the extremists who want a society that does not learn and are oppressed.

Various segments of the society in the capital participated in the event, which was attended by the Ministers of Health, Education, Interior, the Director of the National Disaster Management Agency, and the Deputy Governor of Banadir for Finance.

The Director of the National Disaster Management Agency, Mr. Mahmoud Macalin Abdulle, said that the Khawarij and the Jews are one and the same because they massacre Muslim people.

The Ministers of Health and Interior, Dr. Ali Xaaji and Ahmed Macalin Fiqi, said that the Khawarij are specifically targeting the education sector, and that we are all responsible for their eradication.

The Minister of Education of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, pledged that they will fight with the Khawarij and that they will achieve free and accessible education in Somalia.

Some of the youth who participated in the event shared their opinions. One of them said that he was proud of his country and his people for standing up against terrorism and violence. Another one said that he hoped that one day Somalia would be free from fear and insecurity.

The terrorist attack on October 29, 2022 killed more than 300 people and injured hundreds more. It was one of the deadliest attacks in Somalia’s history. The Khawarij claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that they were targeting government officials and security forces.
