Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Salah Ahmed Jama, and the Minister of Interior, Federal and Reconciliation, H.E Ahmed Moalim Fiqi launched a High-level meeting on Stabilization and Early Recovery on Thursday.

The meeting discussed the stabilization and early recovery of Somalia, delivering aid and government services to the recently liberated areas.

“I want to start off by thanking the brave men and women who sacrifice their lives to liberate our communities. Without them, we would not be here talking about stabilization”, Deputy Prime Minister Salah said.

“Without clear structures, this program cannot succeed, therefore the government of Somalia spent a lot of time and effort to establish a structure and coordination mechanism for the crucial stabilization program”, Minister Fiqi said.

“I want us to move beyond the planning phase, it is time that we get down to the real work and deliver crucial stabilization and recovery initiatives to our newly liberated communities”, he added.

The meeting was attended by Ministers from both the Federal and State level, the Special Envoy for Civilian Protection and Stabilization, the Somali National Army officials, the Somali Disaster Management Agency Commissioner, and Somalia’s stabilization partners including the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and other high-level stakeholders.

The commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) Mahamuud Moalim gives a statement on the humanitarian and disaster mitigation efforts that go alongside Somalia’s liberation and stabilization operations.

The meeting raised three big issues that the Government needs to deliver and do it as early as possible, these issues include: –

  1. Stabilization activities must be implemented as soon as possible.
  2. (Scale up Stabilization), the stabilization efforts must reach all areas that require it and not be limited to a single area.
  3. The stabilization process must lead us to a social contract, and ultimately unite the societies so that people may all live in harmony.
