Kigali (SONNA) – The 15th annual session of the African Risk Capacity (ARC), a continental body for disaster risk management, officially opened in Kigali, Rwanda, with the participation of member states, including Somalia.

The technical segment of the conference focused on key issues, including the election of the 2025 session Chairperson and the ARC presidency for the next four years. Delegates also finalized technical recommendations to be submitted to heads of state.

Somalia’s National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), led by Commissioner Mahmud Moalim Abdulle, actively took part in the technical discussions. The delegation contributed to deliberations on strengthening regional cooperation, particularly on tackling drought across Africa.

The summit concluded with speeches from participating leaders. Commissioner Mahmud Moalim Abdulle of SoDMA delivered a comprehensive address, underscoring Somalia’s commitment to collaborative disaster risk management and resilience building.
