15 Somali Children Receive Life-Changing Hearing Implants in Nairobi

Nairobi, (SONNA) – A transformative medical initiative has concluded in Nairobi, where 15 Somali children received life-changing hearing implants—allowing them to experience sound for the first time in their lives.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of the treatment program, Somali Ambassador to Kenya, Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, extended heartfelt gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its support in making the surgeries possible.

“On behalf of the Somali people and government, I extend my sincere thanks to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, particularly the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, for providing electronic hearing devices to 15 Somali children,” said Ambassador Jabril. “This surgery will significantly change their lives.”

He added, “To give these children the gift of hearing is to transform the way they live. It opens doors that were once closed. These devices offer more than just sound—they offer identity, new opportunities, and a renewed sense of hope and dignity.”

The families of the children, who previously had little hope of affording such advanced care, welcomed the intervention with deep appreciation. The hearing devices implanted are among the latest in modern medical technology and come at a high cost—making them out of reach for most Somali families without international assistance.

Ambassador Jabril also recognized key figures behind the initiative: “I would like to give special thanks to Dr. Aqueel bin Jam’aab Al-Ghamdi, Assistant Supervisor General for Planning and Development, and H.E. Mr. Khalid A. AlSalman, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Kenya, whose timely support made this possible.”

The program represents a powerful example of international cooperation bringing tangible benefits to vulnerable communities—restoring not just hearing, but also dignity and opportunity.
