Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations to Somalia, Cartriona Laing briefed the UN Security Council on the security situation in the country and the improvements.
She highlighted the achievements in stabilising the areas liberated from armed groups, and the efforts to promote rule of law, governance, reconciliation, and basic services.
On the Ethiopia-‘Somaliland’ MoU, Catriona Laing echoed Antonio Guterres in noting that the UNSC has “repeatedly affirmed its respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of Somalia, and called for all parties to engage in peaceful and constructive dialogue and to refrain from inflammatory words or actions that could further escalate tensions.”
