The Somali Diaspora is a crucial component of Somali society, providing significant support during times of natural disasters and droughts, as well as playing a pivotal role in the country’s economic and educational development. Additionally, the Diaspora is actively involved in the ongoing conflict affecting Somalia, working to counter extremist groups that pose a threat to the peace and stability of the country.
The academic and religious communities living abroad have also lent their support to the government’s efforts to stabilize the country. They have condemned the Khawarij’s language and actions, highlighting the need to confront them for the sake of Islam.
One Somali-British citizen, Yonis, has returned from England to fight against the extremist Khawarij group. He has experienced firsthand the harm that this group can cause and is committed to countering them and their destructive ideas. Yonis believes in the importance of a strong government and is prepared to defend his country.
On July 24, 2019, a bombing at the government headquarters of the Banaadir region resulted in the death of the governor and other officials, and Yonis’s father, a Somali-American who had returned to Somalia to work with the government, was among those who were injured
The government has also announced a plan to encourage Somali citizens to participate in the country’s development by taking part in reconstruction efforts. The president has urged the Somali diaspora to contribute to this effort, emphasizing the importance of working together to achieve great things and build capacity to fight terrorism and promote peace and stability in the country.
As the Somali Diaspora continues to play a vital role in the country’s development and stability, it is clear that their contributions are crucial to the future of Somalia. By working together and supporting one another, Somalis both at home and abroad can create a brighter and more prosperous future for their country.
