The Minister of Constitutional and Legal Affairs in Tanzania, Augustine Mahiga has died at his home in Dodoma after a short illness.
President John Magufuli Mahiga made the announcement this morning in a statement.
Magufuli disclosed that Mr Mahiga fell ill at his home in the morning and he was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital.
Before his demise, Mahiga served as the Permanent Representative of Tanzania to the United Nations and as the UN Special Representative from 2003 to 2010 and Head of the United Nations Political Office for Somalia from 2010 to 2013.
He was later nominated as a Member of Parliament by President John Magufuli and thereafter appointed to the Cabinet as Minister of Foreign Affairs in December 2015.
According to Citizen Digital, the details of what caused the minister’s sudden demise are still scanty as not much information has been let out surrounding the death.
President Magufuli has however eulogized the Minister as dedicated hard worker who has served diligently in several top positions in and out of the country.
