Addis Ababa, (SONNA) – The State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Ali Mohamed Omar, today held bilateral discussions with his counterpart, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, H.E. Amb. Mesganu Arega.

During the meeting, both Excellencies reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering dialogue and enhancing working relations between both countries, while recommitting to each other’s sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity.

The discussions were held following the Ankara Declaration of December 11, 2024, and under the framework for implementing its outcomes. State Minister Ali conveyed Somalia’s protest and condemnation of the conduct of Ethiopian forces in Doolow, Somalia.

His counterpart expressed the Ethiopian government’s readiness to launch an immediate investigation and affirmed their willingness to work with the Federal Government of Somalia to prevent similar incidents.

The areas of discussion also included upholding peace and security in the region by combating terrorism, as well as fostering improved bilateral relations to harmonize efforts for the full implementation of the Ankara Declaration, which is positive step in resolving differences between the two countries since January 2024.
