JUBA, South Sudan – The Republic of South Sudan has formally declared its absolute support for the unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, adding its voice to the growing regional consensus against external attempts to fracture the Horn of Africa nation. In an official press statement released on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Juba affirmed that South Sudan stands firmly with the African Union (AU) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in defending Mogadishu’s sovereignty.

The communiqué, issued from the capital Juba, explicitly outlines the government’s position regarding the sanctity of Somalia’s borders. The South Sudanese leadership emphasized that its foreign policy is strictly aligned with international legal frameworks, including the Constitutive Act of the African Union. By citing these treaties, Juba has effectively rejected any claims or diplomatic maneuvers that seek to legitimize secessionist movements within Somalia, reinforcing the principle that the borders inherited at independence are inviolable.

This diplomatic intervention comes at a critical moment for the region. The statement from Juba serves as a direct rebuttal to recent actions that have threatened the cohesion of the Somali state. By reaffirming its commitment to a unified Somalia, the government of South Sudan has signaled that it will not support any entity that operates outside the framework of the Federal Government in Mogadishu. The declaration highlights that the stability of the entire region depends on respecting the established boundaries of sovereign nations.

Observers view this move as a reinforcement of the historic bond between the two nations. The Federal Government of Somalia has welcomed the stance taken by President Salva Kiir’s administration, interpreting it as a clear message of solidarity. South Sudan’s alignment with the continental position isolates actors attempting to bypass the Federal Government, ensuring that the diplomatic shield protecting Somalia’s territorial integrity remains robust across East Africa.

The Ministry’s statement concluded by reiterating that Juba’s position is anchored in regional treaties and international law, leaving no ambiguity regarding its refusal to recognize any alteration to Somalia’s map. This firm declaration strengthens the diplomatic wall Mogadishu has built to repel foreign interference and preserve its national unity.
