Algiers, Algeria (SONNA) – Member of Parliament (MP) Ismail Idow Mohamed has officially assumed Somalia’s seat on the executive committee of the Arab Parliament. The transition took place during a high-level meeting in Algiers, Algeria, chaired by the Speaker of the Algerian Parliament and Arab Parliament President, Ibrahim Boughali.
The session focused on preparations for the upcoming General Conference of Speakers of Arab Parliaments. MP Said Mohamed Mahmoud Hayd, who previously held Somalia’s position on the executive committee, formally handed over responsibilities to MP Ismail Idow Mohamed. MP Hayd recently joined the Federal Government of Somalia’s cabinet, necessitating the transition.
The handover ceremony was witnessed by Speaker Boughali, who emphasized the importance of Somalia’s active role in the Arab Parliament. The Arab Parliament, a key institution of the Arab League, serves as a platform for legislative cooperation among member states.
Somalia’s continued representation in the executive committee reflects its commitment to strengthening regional partnerships and contributing to pan-Arab legislative initiatives. MP Ismail Idow Mohamed is expected to advocate for Somalia’s interests while engaging in critical discussions on Arab unity, security, and development.
