Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia’s Lower House approved the agreement on joining the East African Community (EAC).
The approval of this agreement paves the way for finalizing Somalia’s bid to join the EAC, after they were given a period of 6 months for the it to be passed by the legislative body of the government.
The committee was assigned to complete the official joining of the EAC and finish their work in making Somalia part of the Community.
Somalia was accepted to join the East African Community in November 24th, 2023 at a meeting held in Arusha, Tanzania.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud signed the agreement to join the EAC alongside the current Head of the EAC and the President of South Sudan on the 15th of December, 2023.
Somalia becomes the 8th member of the EAC after Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
