Mogadishu, SONNA – The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallin Abdulle, held high-level talks with United Nations officials on Thursday to discuss the worsening humanitarian situation in the country.

The meeting, held at the SoDMA headquarters, included Mr. George Conway, the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, and Mr. Crispen Rukasha, Head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Somalia.

The discussions centered on strengthening collaboration to advocate for humanitarian aid, both within Somalia and internationally. Key priorities included identifying and mapping high-risk areas requiring urgent assistance to ensure timely delivery of aid to vulnerable communities.

Commissioner Abdulle emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to address the country’s pressing needs, particularly in regions hit hardest by drought, floods, and conflict.

The officials also stressed the importance of monitoring aid operations conducted by NGOs to ensure transparency and efficiency in resource distribution. Additionally, preparations for the upcoming quarterly Country Humanitarian Forum (CHF) were discussed, with a focus on mobilizing international support for Somalia’s crisis response.

Mr. Conway reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting Somalia, stating, “The humanitarian situation remains critical, and we must work together to scale up assistance where it is needed most.”

The meeting concluded with an agreement to enhance joint efforts in advocacy, emergency response, and long-term resilience-building initiatives.
