Beijing, China, SONNA)-: Somalia’s ambassador to China, Awale Ali Kullane, attended a conference on effective multilateralism in Beijing today.
The meeting was organized by the United Nations Office in China.
In his speech, Kullane welcomed the importance of countries working together to strengthen multilateralism, which he described as “the cornerstone of global peace and prosperity.” He also called for greater cooperation between developing countries, saying that “we must work together to build a more just and equitable world.”
The High-Level Commission on the Review of the Multilateral System, which includes former Slovenian President Danilo Türk, was established by the UN Secretary-General in 2020 to review the multilateral system and make recommendations for its reform.
The commission’s report, which was released in 2021, called for a number of changes to the multilateral system, including greater transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness.
The conference in Beijing was followed by a general exchange of information on the issues discussed at the meeting.
