Kampala, (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was welcomed at the State House in Uganda by H.E. President Yoweri Museveni.
Following the conclusion of bilateral discussions, the leaders held a joint press briefing on key issues of bilateral, regional, and international importance, including the security situation in Somalia, the Horn of Africa, and Africa at large.
Key outcomes included:
1. Strengthened cooperation on security, trade, and development.
2. Support for Somali Security Forces and the new AUSSOM mission.
3. Commitment to increasing bilateral trade and investments.
4. Recognition of Somalia’s new EAC membership and its upcoming UN Security Council seat for 2025-2026.
5. Acknowledging the lifting of the arms embargo on Somalia as a crucial step for Somalia to fully assume its security responsibilities.
