Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy of the Federal Republic of Somalia and OYAK Group of Türkiye have signed a strategic agreement to advance the development of Somalia’s fisheries sector, a move expected to significantly contribute to the growth of the country’s blue economy.
The agreement focuses on several key areas, including:
- Direct investment in fisheries infrastructure,
- Enhancing fish production,
- Improving fish quality to meet international export standards,
- Establishing fish processing industries to boost exports and create employment opportunities for Somali youth,
- Strengthening mechanisms to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
The agreement was signed by H.E. Ahmed Hassan Aden, Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy of Somalia, and Mr. Sermaye Yatırımları Anonim Şirketi on behalf of Türkiye’s OYAK Group.
This partnership is expected to play a pivotal role in increasing revenue from Somalia’s marine resources and expanding job opportunities for young people across the country.
The Ministry reiterated its strong commitment to developing the fisheries sector through close collaboration with international companies and investment institutions, aiming to achieve long-term progress and prosperity through sustainable use of Somalia’s blue economy.
