LUSAKA (SONNA) – A high-level delegation from the Federal Government of Somalia, led by the Deputy Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, Abdihakim Hassan Ashkir, has participated in the prestigious “Digital Government Africa 2025” summit hosted by the Government of Zambia in Lusaka. The three-day conference brought together representatives from 26 African nations and global technology companies to discuss innovations and policies aimed at modernizing governance and public service delivery across the continent.
The Somali delegation also included the General Manager of the National Identification and Registration Agency (NIRA), Abdiweli Ali Abdulle (Timacadde). During the summit, the Somali officials presented the significant progress the country has made in establishing its national identification system and developing foundational digital infrastructure.
Their presentation focused on several key digital innovations, including:
- The Hubiye System, a robust verification tool designed to ensure the authenticity of national IDs issued by NIRA.
- e-Aqoonsi, the electronic national ID program.
- The Certificate Delivery System (CDS), which streamlines the issuance of official documents.
The Somali officials’ participation was a key opportunity to showcase the nation’s efforts to rebuild and modernize its state institutions through digital transformation. The delegation highlighted how these technological advancements are not only improving government efficiency but are also a crucial step toward enhancing transparency, security, and citizen access to essential services.
