Addis Ababa, (SONNA) – The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, H.E. Abdullahi Mohamed Warfaa, fully representing the Federal Government of Somalia, participated in the 24th Extraordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council and Ministers of Foreign Affairs held at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa.
The high-level session focused on accelerating pending institutional tasks within the African Union, particularly the implementation and facilitation of elections for vacant AU positions. Delegates reviewed nominations and successfully elected three members to serve in the Peace and Security Council (PSC), the African Union Commission on International Law (AUCIL), and the African Space Council (AfSC).
Ambassador Warfaa reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to active engagement within AU institutions and multilateral frameworks that enhance regional peace, legal cooperation, and scientific advancement. The remaining elections were postponed to July 2025, allowing member states additional time for consultations.
