Mogadishu(SONNA)-Preliminary meeting of Somalia Frontline States Summit on Tuesday started in the capital Mogadishu in which army chiefs from Kenya, Ethiopia, and Djibouti discussed ways to strengthen countering the terrorist militant group of Al-Shabaab.
Information Minister of Somalia, Daud Aweis Jama told Somali National News Agency that the Defense Ministers would focus on forming a unified strategy and cooperation among the front-line states in the region.
“The reason why this meeting is taking place in Mogadishu is that there is progress and Somali government is now pushing to make sure that the country is free of the terrorist completely.
“Somalia hosts Defence Ministers and Chiefs of Defence Forces of Frontline States (Djibouti, Kenya and Ethiopia)to discuss and adopt a common position on regional security and the fight against Al Shabab,” the Information Minister said.
He said that Defense Ministers will prepare agendas for the summit of the heads of the States which is expected to take place tomorrow.
It is noteworthy that Somalia is currently carrying out operations to eliminate terrorism and secure important sites. Somalia has also started the process of fulfilling the requirements for joining the East African Community.
