Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Federal Government of Somalia has officially announced the completion of the first phase of offshore oil and mineral exploration along parts of the Somali coastline, conducted in partnership with Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO).
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources confirmed that the 234-day survey, carried out by the Turkish research vessel Oruç Reis, gathered extensive seismic data. The findings will help assess the quantity and potential of offshore oil reserves.
As part of a Production Sharing Agreement between Somalia and TPAO, the project aligns with the government’s commitment to transparency and national development. The Ministry emphasized that future updates will be shared with the public once the collected data is fully analyzed.
The Ministry also thanked the Turkish Ministry of Energy for its cooperation and acknowledged the leadership of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre in advancing the country’s resource development strategy.
This milestone signals Somalia’s intent to responsibly utilize its natural resources to boost economic growth and improve livelihoods.
