Mogadishu, (SONNA): The Minister of Information of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), Mr. Daud Aweys Jama, joined other officials and dignitaries in celebrating the International Day of Peace, which was held in Mogadishu on Tuesday.
The event, organized by the United Nations Peace University, aimed to promote peace in the world and highlight the achievements and challenges of Somalia in its quest for stability and development.
Among the attendees were the representative of the United Nations in Somalia, some of the ambassadors of the countries of the world, ministers and members of parliament of the Government, and students and civil society activists.
The President of the Peace University of Somalia, Dr. Mohamed Yusuf, said that peace is essential for the life and prosperity of the Somali people and urged them to work together for a common vision.
The Minister of Information of the FGS, Daud Aweys, who spoke briefly at the event, emphasized that the FGS gives priority to making Somalia peaceful and living in peace with the neighboring countries and the rest of the world.
He said that Somalia has made significant progress in the past years in terms of security, governance, and reconciliation, but also faces many challenges and threats that require collective efforts and support from the international community.
He also praised the role of the United Nations and other partners in assisting Somalia in its peacebuilding and state-building process.
