Mogadishu(SONNA):-The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (FGS) and the Italian Agency for development cooperation have formally signed an agreement to boost the manufacturing sector in Somalia, particularly in the fields of agriculture and fisheries.
The agreement was co- signed by the Minister of Commerce and Industry, H.E Abdullah Ali Hassan, and the Director of the Italian Agency for Cooperation development, Mr. Guglielmo Giordano, in the presence of the Italian Ambassador to Somalia, H.E Alberto Vichy and other officials at the Italian embassy in Mogadishu today.
This project will be implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization in Africa and the Middle East (UNIDO), International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FOA) aims to boost domestic production.
The Director of the Italian Agency for Cooperation development expressed his great pleasure in implementing this project in Somalia, adding that this project is a starting point for other important projects in Somalia.
The Italian Ambassador to Somalia indicated that Italy stands with Somalia to implement more projects that will develop the country.
On his part, the Minister stated that the project is of great importance to boost the national economy and create job opportunities for unemployed youth as it attracts economic opportunities and motivates companies working in the field of production to work well and compete, stressing at the same time that his ministry has made unremitting efforts to implement this project in cooperation with the international organization that will finance this project.
