The University of Health Sciences hosted the official opening of the Somali Turkish Public Health Association in the capital, Mogadishu on Friday.
The association is to be chaired by Turkish Professor Hassan Huseyin Ikker, the Minister of Health of the Federal Government, Her Excellency Fawzia Abikr Nur, and other academicians at the university.
The association staff will include medical workers at Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital in Mogadishu.
Moreover, The association will work to develop the health field in Somalia, raise awareness of public health and rational use of medicines and antibiotics, in cooperation with various civic organizations.
In the opening speech, Mr. Ikker said that the association aims to solve the public health problems in Somalia and raise the quality of health services.
In addition, he explained that “the misuse of antibiotics poses a threat to humans like climate change.”
“Raising awareness about the rational use of antibiotics is one of the association’s priorities.” Said Mr.ikker
