(SONNA London, November 19, 2023) In a landmark event poised to reshape the conversation around global food security, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will join hands with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to co-host the Global Food Security Summit in London on Monday, November 20th. This summit is being heralded as a pivotal “reset moment” in addressing the ongoing global food security crisis.

Amidst rising concerns about food scarcity and nutritional deficiencies in various parts of the world, the summit aims to bring together world leaders, experts, and policymakers to formulate a cohesive strategy. The focus will be on sustainable solutions to ensure food security, particularly in regions severely impacted by climate change, conflict, and economic instability.

Somalia, grappling with its own severe food insecurity issues, finds a significant partner in the UK for this initiative. The collaboration between the two nations underlines a shared commitment to tackling the challenges of food scarcity and malnutrition. The UK’s expertise and resources combined with Somalia’s firsthand experience in dealing with food crises are expected to bring valuable insights to the discussions.

The summit will feature various sessions focusing on innovative agricultural practices, climate-resilient farming, and international cooperation for resource allocation. Special emphasis will be laid on supporting countries like Somalia, which are at the frontline of the food security battle due to geographic and socio-political factors.

President Hassan’s involvement in the summit is seen as a crucial step in amplifying the voices of African nations in the global dialogue on food security. His leadership and insights are anticipated to drive meaningful conversations around tailored solutions for regions most in need.

As the world eyes this significant event, the hope is that the Global Food Security Summit will mark the beginning of a more coordinated and effective global response to one of humanity’s most pressing challenges.
