Waajid District, Bakool Region – The Somali National Army (SNA) successfully defeated Khawarij militants in the village of Dhurey, located in the Waajid District of the Bakool Region. The operation, led by the 95th Unit of the 9th Brigade, 60th Division, marks a significant victory in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
The operation was launched after the SNA received credible intelligence indicating that Khawarij militants were gathering in Dhurey village to organize plots aimed at harming civilians and destabilizing public security. Acting swiftly, the 95th Unit, under the command of Isaaq Mohamed Ibrahim, conducted a well-coordinated assault on the militants’ positions.
According to Commander Ibrahim, the SNA forces repelled the terrorist attack from multiple directions, forcing the militants to flee the village after suffering heavy losses. “The strength of our forces and the precision of our operation thwarted the Khawarij’s plans,” Ibrahim stated. “They were unable to withstand the planned attack and were forced to retreat.”
The village of Dhurey, located approximately 20 kilometers from Waajid District, is strategically positioned along the main road connecting Baidoa and Waajid. Its location has made it a focal point for militant activities in the region. The successful operation not only disrupted the Khawarij’s plans but also restored a sense of security to the area.
The Somali National Army has been intensifying its efforts to combat extremist groups across the country, with a particular focus on regions where militants have sought to establish a foothold. The victory in Dhurey is seen as a testament to the growing capabilities and coordination of the SNA in its fight against terrorism.
Local residents have expressed relief following the operation, praising the army for its swift action. “We are grateful to the Somali National Army for protecting us from these terrorists,” said one villager. “We can now go about our lives without fear.”
The SNA has vowed to continue its operations to eliminate the threat posed by Khawarij and other extremist groups, ensuring the safety and security of the Somali people. As the army consolidates its gains in Bakool, attention will now turn to preventing the militants from regrouping and launching further attacks.
