Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Federal Government of Somalia has announced the closure of 12 media outlets and websites affiliated with the Khawarij. This latest action follows the government’s earlier success in shutting down over 30 Khawarij-linked websites across the internet.
The crackdown, carried out by Somali security and cyber agencies, targeted platforms accused of spreading extremist ideologies, inciting violence, and disseminating false information. Authorities have also seized critical data and identified individuals involved in operating these outlets, as well as those who provided financial support to their activities.
During the operation, thousands of files and posts created by the Khawarij on various social media platforms were also destroyed, significantly disrupting the group’s ability to spread its propaganda online. The government has vowed to continue its efforts to dismantle all forms of media used by the Khawarij and other extremist groups.
