MOGADISHU – The Council of Ministers of the Federal Republic of Somalia has approved several critical proposals, including a new national strategy aimed at countering the threat of improvised explosive devices and a new political agreement. The meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, also saw the appointment of a new Accountant General.
Following a proposal from the Ministry of Finance, the Cabinet unanimously approved the nomination of Mohamed Mohamud Abdulle as the new Accountant General. Mr. Abdulle was selected for the role based on his extensive experience in financial administration and public accounting, a move that is expected to strengthen the government’s financial management systems.
The Cabinet also approved the National Strategy for Countering Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). This strategic framework is designed to enhance the government’s capacity to prevent and respond to IED threats, a persistent challenge to national security. In a parallel decision on foreign affairs, the council formally endorsed a political consultation agreement between the governments of Somalia and Tajikistan.
Furthermore, the ministers were briefed on key reports concerning ongoing national projects. Updates were presented on the public’s registration process for the national identification card, as well as the progress of consultations with various community groups regarding the finalization of the constitution. The meeting’s outcomes reflect the government’s dedication to advancing its core agenda on security, governance, and institutional reform.
