Somali Ambassador Rallies African Diplomats in Pretoria; Envoys Reject Israel’s Violation of Somali Sovereignty

PRETORIA, South Africa – The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Southern African nations, H.E. Mohamed Sheikh Issak, participated in a high-level diplomatic gathering of African ambassadors stationed in South Africa on Friday. The session, held in Pretoria, was dominated by urgent discussions regarding the sanctity of national borders and the rejection of external interference in the internal affairs of African states.

A primary focus of the diplomatic forum was the concerning development regarding the State of Israel’s alleged illegal recognition of specific northern regions of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The gathered diplomats engaged in a frank dialogue concerning this move, characterizing it as a direct challenge to the territorial integrity of a sovereign member of the African Union and a dangerous precedent for the continent.

Delivering a keynote address to his counterparts, Ambassador Mohamed Sheikh Issak issued a stern condemnation of any diplomatic maneuvers intended to fragment the Somali nation. He articulated that any action undermining Somalia’s unity is unacceptable and constitutes a flagrant breach of the United Nations Charter and established international legal frameworks. The Ambassador warned that such actions appear to be an attempt to transplant the volatile complexities and conflicts of the Middle East into the Horn of Africa, thereby threatening the security architecture of the entire region.

In a display of continental solidarity, the African ambassadors present expressed their unanimous opposition to the steps taken by Israel. The diplomatic corps reaffirmed that the preservation of the Federal Republic of Somalia’s territorial and airspace sovereignty is sacrosanct. They emphasized that legitimizing secessionist movements causes instability and agreed that the protection of Somalia’s independence is a collective African responsibility.

The Federal Republic of Somalia utilizes this platform to reiterate its position on the defense of its national unity. The government continues to call upon the international community to strictly adhere to legal frameworks that protect the sovereignty of nations and to reject any decisions that violate the territorial integrity of the Somali Republic.
