Mogadishu(SONNA)-The Somali Media Association (SOMA) has finalized 14 days long effort relating with media coverage on coronavirus pandemic in Somalia that have been in progress from September 12-26, 2020.
The Somali Media Association (SOMA) media members have broadcasted UNDP supported awareness programs on Covid -19 passed through the office of the Prime Minister (OPM).
The main video recorded and radio message contents of the Awareness on Covid-19 transmitted and broadcasted three times per day during the fourteen days of the implementation period mainly focused on highlighting what is Coronavirus, its symptoms, and how to prevent its spread, What to do when you get sick with Covid -19? In addition, stopping the wrong opinions and believes about the Covid-19.
The messages on the public awareness raising on Covid-19 was broadcasted through 34 media stations operational across Somalia and has reached an estimated population between 8 to 10 million residing in both the urban and rural areas of Somalia.
Furthermore, five designated radio stations have placed the awareness raising on Covid -19 messages in their social media platforms: Facebook, YouTube and websites for wide public outreach.
“The public across Somalia has been educated on the risks of the coronavirus pandemic and how to be safe from the disease,” says Mohamed Abduwahab, SOMA Secretary General at the conclusion of the program.
The Somali Media Association (SOMA) wishes to appreciate UNDP and the Office of the Prime Minister for the valuable support towards these important services that have educated and raised the public awareness on the risks of the pandemic and how to be protected from contracting the coronavirus disease.
