MOGADISHU – The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) received Mr. George Conway, Deputy Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Somalia, in a crucial meeting aimed at reinforcing the nation’s humanitarian response strategies.
The pivotal meeting centered on the Somali Government’s strategic priorities, which include the prevention of aid diversion, the establishment of robust accountability frameworks, and the reinforcement of the government’s role in the execution and supervision of the response plan. A key topic of discussion was the critical importance of tax exemptions for humanitarian donations and the delineation of service providers’ responsibilities within the country.
Mr. Mohamud Ma’allin, the Commissioner of SoDMA, expressed his profound gratitude to Mr. Conway and the overarching leadership of the United Nations office in Somalia. He acknowledged their unwavering dedication to supporting the humanitarian activities that are vital to the nation’s welfare.
