MOGADISHU, Somalia – November 3, 2025 – The Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has officially dispatched a major humanitarian aid convoy to the El Dher district in the Galgaduud region. This critical assistance, destined for 1,500 vulnerable families, is part of the Federal Government of Somalia’s comprehensive stabilization strategy for areas recently liberated from the Al-Shabaab terrorist group.
The convoy consists of four heavy-duty trucks laden with essential food supplies, primarily rice and sugar. This specific consignment is part of a larger donation provided to Somalia by the People’s Republic of China, underscoring the strong bilateral support for Somalia’s recovery and stabilization efforts.
In Mogadishu, officials from SoDMA formally handed over the convoy to the district administration of El Dher.
Speaking at the dispatch, a SoDMA official detailed the mission’s importance. “We are dispatching these four trucks of aid to support our people in the El Dher district of Galmudug State,” she stated. “This relief, consisting of rice and sugar donated by the government of China, is intended for 1,500 families who have been deeply affected by the dual hardships of drought and the recent conflict.”
The El Dher District Commissioner, who was present to receive the aid, expressed his gratitude to SoDMA and the federal government for the timely intervention. He noted that the population of El Dher has faced immense challenges and that this aid is a crucial lifeline as the community works to rebuild.
El Dher is among the key strategic towns in the Galgaduud region that have been successfully brought under government control following sustained operations by the Somali National Army and local forces.
The delivery of this humanitarian aid is a core component of the government’s post-liberation plan. By providing essential services and relief, SoDMA and its partners are working to restore normalcy, build public confidence, and demonstrate the tangible benefits of peace and security under the federal government’s authority.
This operation reflects SoDMA’s expanding capacity to deliver vital assistance to all regions of Somalia, working in close coordination with international partners and federal member states to address humanitarian needs and support national stabilization goals.
