MOGADISHU – The Commissioner of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mohamoud Moelim Abdulle held a productive meeting with the UK’s Director of Development Programmes (FCDO), Mr. Chris Pycroft, at a dinner event in Mogadishu last night.
The discussions focused on strengthening the relationship and cooperation between the two entities, particularly in the areas of humanitarian response and national development projects. Both sides engaged in an in-depth conversation about the current humanitarian situation in the country, which has been severely impacted by prolonged droughts, ongoing conflicts, and significant internal displacement. These challenges have left a deep effect on the country’s most vulnerable populations.
The meeting also addressed how to enhance cooperation and increase the participation of international partners in addressing the urgent needs of the Somali people. Commissioner Mohamoud Moelim expressed his profound gratitude to the British government for its consistent support to the Somali people, specifically highlighting their assistance in emergency relief and in building the government’s capacity to respond to disasters. He urged the British government to further increase its aid to help save the lives of those in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
In response, Mr. Chris Pycroft affirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening its partnership and increasing collaboration between SoDMA and other Somali government agencies. He stated that this increased cooperation is essential for ensuring that humanitarian responses are effective and lead to sustainable, long-term solutions for the challenges facing the nation.
