Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Somali National Army, supported by local defense fighters from Hiiraan, has successfully repelled a series of Al-Shabaab attacks on areas along the border between the Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.
In a nearly 48-hour military operation, the combined forces killed more than 70 militants and seized a large cache of weapons from the extremist group.
The offensive dealt a major setback to Al-Shabaab’s attempts to expand their influence, with national forces now pursuing remaining elements of the group in parts of Middle Shabelle.
The Federal Government of Somalia commended the Somali National Army and the courageous people of Hiiraan for their bravery, resilience, and critical role in defeating the militants.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating Al-Shabaab from the country, pledging to continue its efforts in collaboration with the Somali people and international partners.
