MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Second Deputy Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, H.E. Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, officially welcomed a high-level international delegation to Mogadishu today, led by H.E. Ahmed bin Mohamed Al-Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP).
The Deputy Speaker was accompanied by a cross-section of legislators from both the House of the People and the Senate at the reception, signaling the importance Somalia places on fostering global partnerships for peace.
During his visit to the capital, President Al-Jarwan is scheduled to hold strategic meetings with the leadership of both Houses of the Federal Parliament. These high-level discussions will focus on strengthening frameworks for peace, promoting the values of tolerance and forgiveness, and enhancing cooperation between international parliamentary bodies.
A key objective of the visit is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Somali Federal Parliament and the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace. This agreement is expected to elevate Somalia’s role on the international stage, ensuring the nation becomes an active and influential member of the Council. The partnership aims to boost Somalia’s visibility in global forums dedicated to conflict resolution and reconciliation.
The visit underscores the Federal Parliament’s commitment to integrating Somalia into global peacebuilding networks and adopting international best practices in fostering social cohesion.
