Moscow, (SONNA) – The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova expressed congratulations to Somalia for being elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
This came in a special statement to the SONNA, where the spokeswoman stressed the importance of this achievement and her appreciation for the role that Somalia can play in this international institution.
“I wish all the best to Somalia, because it will be a very difficult task as we live in a dramatic historical period, but nevertheless, I am sure that your country will do its best to complete this task,” the spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman expressed optimism that Somalia would be able to assume this great responsibility, wishing the country further progress and success in performing its new role on the Security Council. She added that this historic stage requires intensified efforts and international cooperation to achieve global stability and security.
The election of Somalia as a non-permanent member of the Security Council is a qualitative addition to its efforts to strengthen its role on the international scene and contribute to the discussion and resolution of pressing global issues.
Non-permanent Security Council membership gives elected countries the opportunity to participate in the adoption of important resolutions related to international peace and security for a period of two years.
