Bari Region, Somalia – Puntland’s Darawiish forces have officially taken control of the Miiraale command base, the last known hideout of the ISIS-affiliated terror group in the Cal Miskaad Mountains of Bari region.
At dawn today, the forces launched a coordinated assault on Miiraale from multiple ground directions, supported by aerial operations. The area had served as the primary operational base for the extremist group in northeastern Somalia.
A brief statement issued by the Puntland Ministry of Security confirmed the operation’s success, declaring:
“Allahu Akbar. Our forces have taken control of the Miiraale base — the final refuge of the fleeing ISIS militants in the valley. The last of their strategic wells and infrastructure have been seized. The third phase of the joint air and ground operation has ended in complete victory.”
The fall of Miiraale marks a decisive blow to ISIS in Puntland and signals the near-total dismantling of the group’s presence in the region. It also represents the culmination of years of effort to eliminate the threat posed by the extremist group to Somali communities.
