Mogadishu, SONNA — The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, has received a comprehensive report from the Ministry of Ports and Maritime Transport outlining the country’s progress in strengthening its maritime sector.
The report was presented at the Prime Minister’s office by the Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport, Abdikadir Mohamed Nur, alongside technical experts from the ministry. It highlighted the introduction of a modern system for registering boats and ships operating under Somalia’s jurisdiction, ensuring they fly the Somali flag as an official reference.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre commended the ministry’s leadership and technical teams for their efforts in advancing maritime governance, emphasizing the strategic importance of the sector to Somalia’s economic growth.
He further noted that the implementation of the new system will play a critical role in removing Somalia from the maritime blacklist, urging officials to expedite its rollout and ensure timely execution.
The initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s broader agenda to modernize key economic sectors, improve international credibility, and unlock the full potential of Somalia’s maritime resources.
