Mogadishu, SONNA — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, attended a high-level event tonight presenting the achievements and outcomes of Somalia’s participation at the COP30 Climate Change Conference held in Brazil.

During the event, a comprehensive report was delivered outlining the government’s efforts to address the impacts of climate change, including environmental restoration initiatives, flood mitigation strategies, and emerging investment opportunities in the environmental sector.

Prime Minister Hamza commended the active and constructive role played by the Somali delegation in international climate discussions. He noted that Somalia has now entered into meaningful negotiations with the international community regarding access to climate finance and compensation for losses and damages caused by climate change, particularly from developed countries.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the Federal Government has established a dedicated Ministry responsible for environmental affairs and climate change, underscoring the priority placed on addressing drought, environmental degradation, and climate resilience.

Highlighting the urgent humanitarian situation, Prime Minister Hamza stated that the Somali people are currently facing severe drought conditions, requiring immediate relief and sustained international support. He reaffirmed that the government has established a national fund to mobilize resources for drought-affected communities and is actively engaging with ambassadors of friendly nations, heads of state, and international organizations to seek additional assistance.

In conclusion, the Prime Minister called upon Somali scholars, business leaders, and philanthropists to contribute to national relief efforts and support communities enduring difficult circumstances, stressing the importance of collective responsibility during times of crisis.
