Planning Minister Highlights Somalia’s Investment Opportunities at EACON 2026

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Mohamud Abdirahman Sheikh Farah (Beenebeene), has highlighted Somalia’s investment priorities and the opportunities created by the country’s membership in the East African Community (EAC).
Speaking at the 3rd East African Community Conference (EACON 2026), which entered its second day in Mogadishu, the Minister said Somalia’s accession to the EAC was aimed at expanding opportunities for Somali businesses operating across African markets.
“The Somali Government has created opportunities for Somalis who have businesses in African countries, and that is why we joined the East African Community,” Minister Beenebeene said.
The Minister also outlined Somalia’s national investment agenda and its approach to investment within the EAC, focusing on linking the country’s investment priorities with wider economic opportunities across East Africa.
He stressed the importance of regional cooperation, investment promotion and aligning Somalia’s national development plans with regional frameworks to support sustainable economic growth.
EACON 2026 is also focusing on harmonising Somalia’s national laws with the EAC Treaty, enhancing business competitiveness, and developing knowledge and skills.
These efforts are expected to strengthen Somalia’s participation in the regional market, attract investment, expand employment opportunities and support the country’s economic growth.
