Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre Addresses Aswan Forum, Outlines Somalia’s Path to Sustainable Development

ASWAN, EGYPT (SONNA) – The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, delivered a key address today at the 5th Aswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development in Africa, held in Aswan, Egypt. The conference, themed “Africa’s Agency for Development and Transformation in a Contemporary World,” served as a platform for the Prime Minister to assert that Somalia has embarked on a path toward lasting development, having overcome significant security, economic, and political hurdles.
The Prime Minister highlighted the concrete successes achieved by the government, noting major milestones such as:

- The rebuilding of state institutions and national governance structures.
- The achievement of the HIPC Debt Relief Completion Point.
- The lifting of the longstanding arms embargo on the country.
- Significant improvements in the security sector, particularly in the fight against the Khawaarij extremist groups.
- The elevation of Somalia's diplomatic ties with regional and international partners.
- Reconstruction and economic infrastructure development.
- Economic growth and job creation.
- Enhancing social services, including education and healthcare.
- Food security and agricultural development.
- Environmental protection and the promotion of clean energy.
- Transparency in governance and genuine governmental accountability.
