Mogadishu, SONNA – Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre of the Federal Republic of Somalia convened a pivotal meeting with the traditional elders of the South West in Baidoa in a significant move to bolster state-building efforts. The discussions cantered on the integral role of culture in state-building and enhancing collaboration between the government and local communities.
The meeting saw the participation of the President of the South West Region, Abdicasis Hassan Mohamed (Laftagareen), and focused on the elders’ potential contributions to peace, reconciliation, and conflict resolution in the South West areas. Prime Minister Hamsa emphasized the importance of the elders’ role in safeguarding the unity and sovereignty of the Somali nation, urging them to avoid actions that could harm community cohesion.
Expressing his gratitude, Prime Minister Hamsa acknowledged the elders’ crucial support in government-building and the promotion of the federal system in Somalia. He highlighted that traditional elders are a cornerstone in the nation’s governance structure, playing a vital role in fostering unity and stability.
