Asmara (SONNA) – As part of their regular consultations, President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia held extensive discussions yesterday evening at State House in Asmara. The talks focused on further consolidating bilateral ties between the two sisterly countries and addressing regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The two leaders emphasized the importance of securing and guaranteeing Somalia’s stability as a pivotal factor for enduring peace and stability in the Horn of Africa. They delved into salient agendas that promote the achievement of this objective, highlighting the critical role of regional cooperation.
President Isaias Afwerki elaborated on the necessity for the region to extricate itself from external interventions that often advance agendas of conflict and chaos. He stressed the importance of the region addressing and resolving its own challenges independently.
Furthermore, President Isaias reiterated that the agreement reached at the Tripartite Summit between Eritrea, Somalia, and Egypt in Asmara aims to consolidate existing and historical ties of cooperation, guarantee the peace and stability of Somalia, and broadly promote the interests of the Horn of Africa and Red Sea regions.
In a subsequent statement to the Eritrean press, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed his appreciation for Eritrea’s contributions to bolstering Somalia’s National Army and related sovereign institutions. He emphasized that these efforts are vital for the stability of both Somalia and the broader Horn of Africa region. President Hassan also noted that Somalia can benefit from Eritrea’s vast experiences in fostering viable and robust partnerships.
