Mogadishu, SONNA — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has officially broken ground for the construction of a major paved road connecting Dadbka and Bakara intersections in Mogadishu, a project funded through public tax and implemented by the Benadir Regional Administration.
The launch of the infrastructure project marks a significant milestone in the capital’s ongoing recovery and development, reflecting tangible progress in security, governance, and economic infrastructure.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President emphasized that the road project symbolizes the visible transformation of Mogadishu, particularly highlighting improvements in stability and public service delivery. He commended the Benadir Regional Administration for what he described as a historic step in returning taxpayer resources to the community through impactful development initiatives.
Meanwhile, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud reiterated the government’s firm commitment to advancing a democratic system based on universal suffrage, calling on political actors and stakeholders to support the realization of national priorities.
Our goal is to regulate politics and return power to the people. No individual or small group can determine the fate of millions of Somalis. Elections will be conducted on the basis of one person, one vote, and all stakeholders must be ready.”
The President also urged Somali business leaders to invest in productive sectors such as agriculture and industry, stressing the importance of reducing reliance on imported goods and strengthening domestic economic resilience.
The road project is expected to improve connectivity in Mogadishu, ease transportation, and contribute to the city’s broader economic growth.
