Mogadishu, SONNA – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has awarded a certificate of honor to the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism in recognition of its outstanding leadership and contributions during the 65th Independence Day celebrations. The honor was presented to the Acting Minister and Deputy Minister, Hon. Abdirahman Yusuf Omar (Al-Adaala), who led the Ministry in the National Committee for Freedom Days in the absence of the Minister, H.E. Daud Aweis Jama, who was on official travel.
The Ministry was recognized for its central role in planning, promoting, and executing public engagement campaigns throughout Freedom Week, which marked Somalia’s liberation from Italian and British colonial rule. The Ministry took the lead in raising national awareness around the significance of independence, organizing cultural performances, and facilitating media coverage that brought the spirit of unity and patriotism into homes across the country.
Acting Minister Abdirahman Yusuf Omar (Al-Adaala), who served on the national organizing committee, played a critical role in coordinating subcommittees that spearheaded awareness campaigns in Mogadishu and beyond. Under his leadership, the Ministry scheduled performances by National Art Groups in key districts, aimed at educating the public on the historical value of independence and fostering national pride.
Additionally, the Ministry ensured widespread media participation, enabling Somali outlets to broadcast Independence Day events live across the country. The unified media coverage helped enhance national visibility of the celebrations and reinforced the spirit of collective identity.
The Ministry’s efforts were guided by the strategic directives of Minister Daud Aweis Jama, whose leadership and vision were central to the Ministry’s successful coordination.
This recognition from the President underscores the Ministry’s role not just in communication and cultural preservation, but in mobilizing national sentiment around Somalia’s most important historical milestones. It also reflects the broader commitment of government institutions to honoring the country’s heritage while engaging the public in nation-building.
