Mogadishu(SONNA)-The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has extended warm congratulations to the leadership and members of the Somali Police Force as the nation marked the 82nd anniversary of the establishment of the Somali Police, founded in 1943.

Speaking during the official commemoration ceremony, the President praised senior commanders, officers, non-commissioned officers, and rank-and-file personnel for their dedication and service to the country. He commended the Somali Police Force for its continued efforts in maintaining security, protecting civilians, and upholding the rule of law across the country.

President Hassan Sheikh specifically lauded the Police Command for the tangible progress achieved in a short period, including improvements in public security, rehabilitation of police stations, and professional development of the force. He emphasized that the Somali Police has historically stood as a symbol of national service, safeguarding the lives, dignity, and property of Somali citizens for more than eight decades.

The President also highlighted the upcoming district council elections scheduled for December 25, underscoring the critical role of the Somali Police Force in ensuring a peaceful, secure, and transparent electoral process. He called on police leadership and personnel to be fully prepared to carry out their constitutional responsibilities in safeguarding the elections, which are a key step toward strengthening democratic governance.

“The Somali Police Force has a national duty to guarantee the safety of citizens and the integrity of the electoral process. I am confident in your professionalism and readiness to secure the upcoming council elections,” the President stated.

He further urged police officers to carry out their duties in full compliance with the law, reminding them that accountability and respect for citizens’ rights remain fundamental to public trust and national stability.

The anniversary event was attended by senior government officials, members of parliament, commanders of the armed forces, former police chiefs, diplomats, and other distinguished guests, all of whom joined in recognizing the enduring legacy and vital mission of the Somali Police Force.
