MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Minister of Ports and Marine Transport of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, has formally welcomed the unanimous decision by the Council of Ministers to approve the new Marine Transport Registration Regulation. Speaking in Mogadishu on Thursday, the Minister described the passage of this regulatory framework as a definitive step toward modernizing the nation’s maritime administration and resolving historic challenges within the sector.
The newly endorsed regulation establishes a comprehensive and unified legal structure for the registration of vessels operating under the Somali flag. Minister Nur emphasized that this legislation is designed to enforce rigorous safety standards, enhance monitoring protocols, and protect the integrity and reputation of the Somali national flag in international waters. Furthermore, the framework ensures that Somalia fully complies with binding international maritime conventions, signaling a return to global compliance standards.
