Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre who gave a speech at the Somali Blue Economy Investment Conference said that more than half a million people were displaced and more than 1 million people affected by the flash floods around the country.
“There are mothers, children, and elderly on the streets tonight because of the heavy rains and they need immediate support because they live with all the diseases that come with the floods”, Prime Minister Barre said.
The Prime Minister asked the Somali people to lend a helping hand to their fellow Somalis who have been displaced and are in dire need of shelter and other basic needs.
Prime Minister Hamza also talked about the investment and how the government is attracting foreign investment so that internal production can be increased which will lead to self-sufficiency.
“Instability and internal conflicts will lead to failure to take advantage of the local resources. The government recently approved the bill of foreign investment and wants the international investors to come to Somalia and invest in the country”, he added.
The meeting which will last for two days will be attended by Ministers from the Federal Government, Ministers of Fisheries from the Federal Member States of Somalia, Ambassadors, and other officials.
