Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Hamza Abdi Barre, chaired a crucial meeting of the Cabinet Sub-committee on Inclusive Politics, focusing on accelerating support for the electoral process and completing the constitutional review.
During the meeting, officials presented updates on the ongoing efforts to implement free and fair elections, ensuring that Somali citizens exercise their constitutional right to vote and be elected. The discussions emphasized the government’s role in facilitating a credible electoral process.
Prime Minister Barre directed subcommittee members to expedite their efforts in supporting and streamlining the necessary measures for the elections. He stressed the importance of public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on the significance of voting and democratic participation.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission and Boundaries (GMDQS) is fully responsible for overseeing all elections at every level. The government is committed to supporting the commission to ensure the successful implementation of a one-person, one-vote system. I call on all relevant government institutions to accelerate their responsibilities in assisting the electoral process,” said the Prime Minister.
The meeting also featured reports on the constitutional review process, specifically the revisions of chapters 5 to 9, as well as updates on the National Transformation Plan (NTP), which is nearing completion.
